Birth Doula Services
{Serve. Educate. Assist.}
The ancient Greek word Doula translates to "a woman who serves." As a birth doula, I serve the mother and her partner, providing them with education, support, and comfort during the prenatal, birth, and postpartum periods. A doula recognizes birth as a key moment in life and knows that it is a time a mother won't soon forget. Doulas strive to make birth the best possible experience for the parents-to-be.
Hiring a doula gives you the best possible chance at having your dream birth come true. So what are you waiting for?
Research has shown that women who have a doula present at birth were:
- more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal birth.
- less likely to have any pain medication or epidural (although doulas attend every style of birth, even planned c-sections!)
- less likely to have negative feelings about childbirth.
- less likely to have a vacuum or forceps delivery.
- less likely to have a C-section.
I serve Salt Lake and Weber/Davis counties and have good working relationships with many care providers with in these areas. I work in a doula partnership with another doula to provide the most caring services possible, what that means for you is the highest level of support. In the event of extended labor and birth a second doula would join us with fresh renewed energy. Depending on the situation, the main doula will stay and continue labor support (2 doulas!) or she would go regain her energy and the second doula will remain with you and provide support.
Services include:
- An interview. Let's make sure we are a perfect match!
- Optional monitirce services at home- cervical exam, fetal heart tones monitoring, and maternal vitals before heading to the hospital. Not every doula has the skill to provide this service, as a Certified Professional Midwife, I offer these skills to my doula clients to add value and helpful resources to their birth package.
- One or two prenatal appointments to get to know each other, go over childbirth education if needed, coach birth partner, learn comfort measures, and to also meet your extra doula.
- Basic prenatal and childbirth information including exercises to ease pregnancy discomfort and nutrition guidelines.
- Create or review your birth plan and help work out any questions or fears you may have.
- Continuous birth support when that special day (or night) arrives, followed by postpartum and breast feeding support.
- I am on call from the moment you pay your deposit, to answer any questions you may have until your birthing time begins.
- After birth we meet again to go over any new mom questions or feelings about your recovery and to check on mom and baby. I can help you with breastfeeding basics and birth processing at this time as well.
- Access to my Early Core Recovery Plan, giving you the opportunity to make the best choices for your postpartum healing process.
- New parent digital folder with resources for you and your baby through the 4th trimester and baby's first year.
